Frequently Asked Questions

We get asked a lot of the same questions. Please browse the section below to see if we have already answered your question.

What is Part P?
The specific section of the Building Regulations for England and Wales which relates to electrical installations in domestic properties.

For further information, please read The Directgov web site.

What is Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)?
A System of formal, recorded visual checks and combined inspection and testing using a PAT testing meter. This is usually carried out on any equipment which has a plug, whether or not it is portable. (Portable handheld equipment is likely to need more frequent PAT testing than equipment which tends to stay in the same place).

What's Involved In Re-wiring A House?

A rewire is the most disruptive and invasive work that a property can undergo. Every room will need to have the following carried out:

  • Furniture to be moved out
  • Floor covering to be taken up
  • Floor boards to be lifted to gain access to the floor voids
  • Walls to be chased out for switches/sockets where necessary
  • Dust and mess during the period of the work (although we always clean up as much as possible at the end of the day). In addition, to rewire the lighting upstairs, this requires the loft to be cleared  to gain access to the lighting points and to each switch drop.

To see how much this will cost, please Contact Scoop Electrical Services.

Why Do I Need A Qualified Electrician?

Contractors registered by NICEIC are assessed on a regular basis to ensure that they are competent and capable of meeting the relevant technical and safety standards, codes of practice and rules of the Schemes they are registered to.

How Can I Save Money On My Energy Bills? How Can I Save Money By Using Low Energy Lightbulbs?

Inefficient light bulbs are disappearing from UK shops – they’re all being replaced by energy saving light bulbs. Energy saving light bulbs are compact, bright and available in a wide range of shapes – so the only difference you’ll notice is a drop in your electricity bills. Not all lamps are the same however. Some cheaper imports are giving the energy saviving market a bad name. We can advise you on the best and most appropriate lamp for your needs.
